Honorable John Lewis last ride over Edmund Pettus Bridge.jpg

I cried like a baby who needed a bottle watching John Lewis cross that bridge for the last time. I cried for Bloody Sunday. I cried because it was necessary for him to risk his life for Black people to have the right to vote. I cried because 55 years later it’s still necessary to get into “good trouble” because we are still not equal. I cried because there are people who still don’t want to establish equality and even worse, those that don’t even want to acknowledge that systemic racism continues to oppress Black people in this country. I cried because blatant racism, in 2020, is being accepted, supported, and voted for by so many. I cried because I feared, for just one moment, that we might not live up to John Lewis’ legacy. But then I remembered who I am, who WE are, and I have no doubt that we will continue to stand up for justice and equality with good and necessary trouble. Rest In Peace Sir. We’ll take it from here.

Note: I hope that everyone understands this man’s sacrifices so that we could have the right to vote. It is our obligation to him to show up and show out on November 3rd.

This is from my beloved cousin, Michelle Thomas. And that’s what she said!
